Sailing Resources

We have spent many hours researching cruising over the last few years. Here, in no particular order, are some of the books and websites that were helpful planning our trip:

Sailing Bohemia – A YouTube channel about a boat sailing our exact itinerary. Very informative – and funny! First mates for justice!

Adventure Adrift – Another YouTube channel about a boat sailing a similar trip to ours.

SV Delos – Kind of the Grand-Pappy of all sailing channels – with good reason.

Sailing Totem – A fabulous resource, especially for sailing families. Behan and Jamie offer a wonderful coaching service.

The Boat Galley – Carolyn Shearlock’s website on everything you could ever need to know about living on a boat. Plus, she has an amazing podcast by the same name.

Dogfish Boatworks – Marga helped us survey a boat we DIDN’T end up buying, and took a quick look at Ohana for us as well. She’s lovely and doing great work in the Sea of Cortez

Life Off the Deep End – A podcast about a family sailing down the West Coast. I spent a few days of the pandemic bingeing on this one. It’s been interesting re-listening now that we have visited some of the same places. Definitely a fun one!

Hundred Rabbits – Such an interesting and unique YouTube channel of a younger Canadian couple, who first sailing down the West Coast and then cross the South Pacific and end up in Japan!

Vendee Globe – An every four-year round-the-world solo sailing race. The next one is in 2024. It’s fantastic.

Lin and Larry Pardey – Pioneers of the cruising lifestyle, they are the authors of several essential cruising books.

Pip Hare – Website of the British professional sailor. She’s a real inspiration.

SV Triteia – I am so impressed with this captain and his videos. He won an award for his sail to Hawaii where he jerry-rigged his steering after losing his rudder.
